Ayşe Bayram’dan kişisel sergi: “Beyond the Mask, Behind the Self”

Versus Arts Gallery, sanatçı Ayşe Bayram’ın Beyond the Mask, Behind the Self başlıklı kişisel sergisine 28 Mart – 4 Nisan tarihleri arasında ev sahipliği yapıyor. Küratörlüğünü İlayda Uzunarslan’ın üstlendiği sergi, sanatçının ağırlıklı olarak suluboya tekniğiyle ürettiği; maskeler, portreler, sürreal çizgiler ve bilinçaltı çağrışımlarla şekillenen eserlerini bir araya getiriyor.

Ayşe Bayram’ın sanatsal pratiği, geleneksel suluboya disiplinini bilinçaltının akışkan ve katmanlı yapısıyla buluşturuyor. Su ve pigmentin kâğıt üzerindeki öngörülemez hareketini hem teknik hem de kavramsal bir araç olarak kullanan sanatçı, eserlerinde kimlik, görünürlük, saklanma, toplumsal roller ve içsel benlik arasındaki gerilimi araştırıyor. Sergide yer alan maskeler, yalnızca gizlenmeyi değil; aynı zamanda korunmayı, dönüşümü ve bireyin kendi iç dünyasıyla kurduğu karmaşık ilişkiyi simgeliyor.

Beyond the Mask, Behind the Self, izleyiciyi yüzeyin ardına bakmaya, görünen persona ile bastırılmış ya da korunmuş iç gerçeklik arasındaki ince çizgiyi sorgulamaya davet ediyor. Portreler, sürreal detaylar ve sezgisel biçimlerle kurulan bu görsel dünya, bireyin parçalı kimliğine dair sessiz ama güçlü bir yüzleşme alanı yaratıyor.

Muğla’da yaşayan ve üreten Ayşe Bayram, 2007 yılında Cumhuriyet Üniversitesi Resim-İş Öğretmenliği Bölümü’nden mezun oldu. Sanatçı, üretim pratiğini yıllardır sürdürdüğü sanat eğitimciliği ile birlikte geliştirirken, suluboyanın ifade gücünü psikolojik ve spiritüel katmanlarla derinleştiren özgün bir dil oluşturuyor. Uluslararası Suluboya Topluluğu (IWS) üyesi olan Bayram, uluslararası sergiler ve Londra merkezli projelerle çalışmalarını daha geniş sanat çevreleriyle buluşturmaya devam ediyor.

Sanatçının eserleri, estetik bir deneyimin ötesinde; izleyiciyi kendi içsel maskeleri, kırılganlıkları ve dönüşüm potansiyeli üzerine düşünmeye çağırıyor.

Beyond the Mask, Behind the Self, Ayşe Bayram’ın suluboyanın akışkan ve öngörülemez doğası üzerinden kimliğin çok katmanlı yapısını araştırdığı bir düşünsel alan açıyor. Maskeler, portreler ve sürreal çizgisel öğeler aracılığıyla kurulan bu seçki, bireyin toplumsal olarak görünür kıldığı yüz ile iç dünyasında taşıdığı kırılgan, bastırılmış ya da dönüşen benlik halleri arasındaki gerilime odaklanıyor.

Bayram’ın eserlerinde maske, yalnızca bir saklanma aracı değil; aynı zamanda korunma, uyumlanma ve dönüşümün simgesine dönüşür. Suluboyanın geçirgenliği ve akışkan yapısı, bu psikolojik ve duygusal katmanları görünür kılarken, izleyiciyi de kendi içsel yüzleşmesine davet eder. Sergi, görünen ile gizlenen, persona ile öz benlik arasındaki ince sınırda dolaşan şiirsel ve sezgisel bir anlatı sunar.

Versus Arts is pleased to present Beyond the Mask, Behind the Self, a solo exhibition by visual artist Ayşe Bayram, on view from 28 March to 4 April. Curated by İlayda Uzunarslan, the exhibition brings together a body of works created primarily in watercolor, featuring masks, portraits, surreal linear forms, and imagery shaped by subconscious associations.

Ayşe Bayram’s artistic practice merges the discipline of traditional watercolor with the fluid, layered terrain of the subconscious. Using the unpredictable movement of water and pigment on paper as both a technical and conceptual force, Bayram explores the tensions between identity, visibility, concealment, social roles, and the inner self. In this exhibition, masks emerge not only as symbols of disguise, but also as markers of protection, transformation, and the complex relationship between the individual and their inner world.

Beyond the Mask, Behind the Self invites viewers to look beyond the surface and reflect on the fragile boundary between the visible persona and the hidden or protected inner reality. Through portraits, surreal details, and intuitive forms, the exhibition creates a quiet yet powerful space of confrontation with the fragmented nature of the self.

Based in Muğla, Turkey, Ayşe Bayram graduated from the Department of Art Education at Cumhuriyet University in 2007. Alongside her long-standing role as an art educator, she has developed a distinctive visual language that expands the expressive possibilities of watercolor through psychological and spiritual depth. A member of the International Watercolor Society (IWS), Bayram continues to share her work with wider audiences through international exhibitions and projects in London.

More than an aesthetic experience, Bayram’s work invites viewers to reflect on their own inner masks, vulnerabilities, and potential for transformation.

Beyond the Mask, Behind the Self opens a reflective space in which Ayşe Bayram explores the layered nature of identity through the fluid and unpredictable language of watercolor. Through masks, portraits, and surreal linear forms, the exhibition focuses on the tension between the socially visible self and the fragile, suppressed, or transforming inner states that remain hidden beneath the surface.

In Bayram’s works, the mask becomes more than a symbol of concealment; it emerges as a marker of protection, adaptation, and transformation. The transparency and fluidity of watercolor make these psychological and emotional layers palpable, inviting viewers into an intimate confrontation with their own inner selves. The exhibition offers a poetic and intuitive visual narrative that moves along the delicate threshold between persona and essence.
